JEFFERSON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

August 23, 2007         7:00 pm

Treasurer Hank Barnett opened this special meeting in the absence of Chairwoman Betty Watkins. Twelve people were in attendance.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved. Hank distributed copies of the treasurer’s report which was approved.

Jean Smelcer reported about the leadership event she attended with Betty Watkins. The  state Democratic Party presented a workshop how to plan events. She reported that it was informative and worthwhile.

The website that has been maintained by the Pickels expires in September. Everyone agreed it should be continued but a volunteer needs to step forward to take charge in light of the Pickels moving out of the county.

Hank asked if the Board wants to continue its practice of donating $100 to the United Way of Jefferson County. A motion to make the donation was moved and approved.

Hank asked if participation in Old Tyme Saturday was something we should do this year. It was agreed that it gives us a presence in the county. It will cost $35 for a booth and will be held on Saturday, October 6. Hank volunteered to set up and take down the booth. A schedule of volunteers for 9 am to 5 pm will be determined at the September meeting.

Hank asked if there were any nominations for the position of vice president which is being vacated by Joe Pickel. Tom Wills volunteered and was approved by the Board.

The meeting adjourned.
