The Jefferson County Democratic Headquarters celebrated its Grand Opening on August 25th! The Grand Opening was celebrated by an Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Ginny Kidwell, Gov. Bredesen's Northeast TN field representative for Tennessee's Victory 2006 Campaign spoke on his behalf. Hank Barnett, head of the Jefferson County Committee to elect Harold Ford, Jr., spoke about the need to elect a Democrat to the U.S. Senate from Tennessee. The Committee to Elect Harold Ford, Jr. is looking for volunteers to help with phoning and door-to-door campaigning. Betty Watkins is also looking for volunteers to help with the Bredesen campaign in the county.
Harold Ford, Jr., Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, paid a visit to Jefferson County on August 1st at 7 pm. Over 100 supporters attended the rally at Captain's Galley in Dandridge. More information about Harold Ford, Jr. can be found on Our Candidates page.

Representatives of the Jefferson County Democratic Party took part in the Annual East Tennessee Truman Day Dinner at the Knoxville Convention Center. Speakers included Harold Ford Jr., Paul Hackett, and Schree Pettigrew. View pictures from the event here.
March 2006
The Jefferson County Democratic Party held a Spring Fundraiser on March 30th at the Jefferson Middle School Cafeteria. Bob Tuke, the State Party Chairman, was the keynote speaker and other candidates for local races also spoke. Democrats from Jefferson, Hamblen, Knox, and Blount county attending the event.

October 2005
The Jefferson County Democratic party sponsored a booth at the Jefferson City Old Time Saturday on October 1, 2005. The party used this opportunity to promote the new website, recruit volunteers, and increase awareness of the Democratic party in Jefferson County.
September 2005
The Jefferson County Democratic Party held its first Truman Day Dinner on September 24, 2005 at Carson-Newman College. The event was a great success with over 100 democrats attending. The evening began with music provided by the Absent Minded Professors. The program also included a tribute to Harry Truman, entitled "What would Harry do?" by Jim Gray, Knox County Democratic Party Chair. The keynote speaker was Weldon Markum, member of the state Democratic Party Executive Committee. Mr. Markum gave a rousing speech about being a liberal in the south.

August 2005
In an embarrassing moment for the democratic party, it was recently discovered that treasurers reports required by the state registrar were not filed in a timely manner. After learning of this mistake, the Democratic Executive Committee moved to alter the by-laws in order to prevent this incident from occurring again. A proposed fine levied by the registrar was reduced in light of the by-law amendments after a delegation of Jefferson County Democrats appeared before them in Nashville.
The Annual Democrats Picnic held at on August 6, 2005 at the White Pine Roadside Park. The picnic featured the Firehouse Band and Representative as the invited speaker.
The Jefferson County Democrats hosted booth at the Dandridge June Jubilee to increase of the Party's visibility in the community and recruit volunteers. The Party plans on hosting a booth at the Jefferson City Old Time Festival in October. Please contact the party if you are interested in participating in this activity.
The Democratic Party planted a Dogwood tree at Rush Strong School to honor the memory of Christopher Watts. Chris was the first soldier from Jefferson County killed in Iraq. Chris was a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Firebolt. He was killed on April 24, 2004.
